On Dec. 1, the Seoul Metropolitan Government began enforcing its restrictions on aging vehicles operating within the boundaries of the old city wall from 6 am to 9 pm in an effort to battle pollution. A total of 416 vehicles classified as releasing Grade 5 emissions were caught by special cameras and fined 250,000 won (US$211.36) on this day. Grade 5 vehicles have the worst emission rating, comprising mostly diesel vehicles produced before 2002 and gasoline vehicles produced before 1987.
