Just 30 days after opening the sluice gates of the Changnyeong-Haman weir, water levels of the Nakdong River has dropped by around 2.6m. The change has inspired a resurgence of endangered bird and animal species to the region. On Dec. 22, an environmental activist group held a press conference at the South Gyeongsang Provincial Office’s press center, announcing that the Nakdong River’s ecosystem is repairing itself as the result of the sluice gates of the Changnyeong-Haman weir being opened.
